Last night we decided to go to dinner straight from work, instead of heading home and doing the usual "what's edible here?" dance. We went to a favorite neighborhood haunt, Rockwell Grill in Lincoln Square, and were delighted to discover the meaning of a truly family-friendly restaurant. It's a small place, so Mack's chatter and occasional shrieks can be heard very well, but they generally elicit grins and friendly comments from other diners instead of impolite glares. A large group of men (also a group of large men) enjoyed Mack a lot - clearly a bunch of grandpas.
Mack is cutting another tooth and was very uncomfortable, so he was unhappy in his high chair. I put him on the floor, and he took off walking around the whole place - visiting other tables, saying "bye!" to departing customers and generally livening the place up. When our food arrived, he decided that sitting on Mommy's lap was preferred, and he used his special spoon to carefully scoop up mashed potatoes, which I mixed with chicken and broccoli bits. He ate almost all of the potatoes, eventually giving up the spoon in favor of his hands. He also drank water with a straw, which is such a cute sight that the next table stopped their conversation to watch and smile at him.
Despite missing his usual bedtime, Macklin laughed and talked all the way home and seemed to enjoy himself. It was our most successful dining experience so far and a wonderful memory.
(Charles took a few photos, but they're on his phone - we'll try to post them here later.)
[Charles edit] Here's the only good picture from our Rockwell Grill experience.

Sounds like you all had a wonderful time! :)
Sounds like he ate well too! Maybe you should try eating at that place more often! It's nice that you found a baby-friendly place! Is it near your home?
It's not walking distance, but it isn't too far away.
