6 months: scooting and slurping

Dear Macklin,

You turned six months old yesterday! It's so hard to believe it's been six months since you made your appearance, all purple-faced and hollering at the top of your lungs. Since then you've relaxed quite a bit; indeed, you're the most relaxed little guy I know. As long as you get a good night's rest (which is most of the time), you wake up with a big grin and enjoy a tasty breakfast of milk with Mommy; you love twirling your fingers in Mommy's hair while you eat and occasionally give a hearty tug, just to make sure I'm paying attention.

Your favorite spot in the whole world is your changing table - we sing songs, and you hug your well-loved blue bunny and chew on his nose. (He doesn't mind.) Lately you can't wait until the diaper comes off, so you can flip over and moon Mommy and Daddy. You love love love being naked and rolling around on your quilt, and you grin and chortle when Mommy blows raspberries in your armpit or behind your ear.

Lately your favorite songs are "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "If You're Happy and You Know it." The latter is fun to sing in the car, with new lyrics such as:

If you're happy and you know it
Wave at cars!
If you're happy and you know it
Blow your horn! (Toot Toot!)
If you're happy and you know it
Then the cops won't pull you over
If you're happy and you know it
Wave at cars!

Six months is a big milestone, Mack. You're almost crawling, and you are starting to figure out how to eat rice cereal. (Hint: you must open your mouth first.) This morning you reached your hand out to Daddy to say good morning, which made him smile and kiss your cheek.

Work may keep Mommy and Daddy very busy and sometimes a little stressed out, but always remember this, buddy - you're our little man, and we're very proud to be your mom and dad. You're so smart and loving, and we are amazed how fast you learn new things.

Here's to another wonderful six months!

I think Macklin loves that song too! He even sang the last line for us! If you sing it over and over and over, he'll get the words to it; they may not sound exactly the same, but he'll get them. I remember singing "Four and Twenty Blackbirds" to Caroline one afternoon when I picked her up from daycare out in West Fort Worth, and she kept saying "gin," "gin," which I interpreted to means sing it again. Pretty soon, she was "singing" along with me. Those are magic, memorable moments for grandmas. Love and kisses to you all.

We love our little nephew and cousin!! He is just adorable. I love how excited he gets and his cooing at the end. :)
